Easter Sunday at Ferrymead Park - 20th April 2025

As the resident brass band of Ferrymead Park, Sumner Silver Band were scheduled to perform at the park on Easter Sunday.

The tenor horns and lower brass play the march ‘Punchinellie’ - a mash up of the famous Rimmer march ‘Puncinello’ and ‘Nellie the Elephant’!

Unfortunately the weather over the whole of the Easter weekend was wet and cold, which significantly reduced the numbers turning out to visit the park on the Sunday and meant that an outdoor performance was not possible.

A study in concentration…

The euphoniums and lower brass.

The band still attended the park, however, and transformed the planned performance into an ‘open rehearsal’ in the Friendly Societies Lodge (which is the space we’re privileged to use as our band room).

The trombones and basses

In two sets we managed to cover almost all of the planned programme, and with the doors of the lodge open to the park managed to entice a number of those who had braved the elements to visit the park into the lodge to listen to some of our performance.

Hopefully our next engagement at the park, Mothers’ Day on Sunday May 11th, will be in better weather enabling us to perform al fresco.
