A Glorious Day at the Canterbury A&P Show 2025
What a truly glorious day it was at the Canterbury A&P Show! The sunshine, the crowds, and the energy of the event made it the perfect setting for the Sumner Silver Band to perform. We are so grateful to the A&P Canterbury team for inviting us to be part of such a special occasion. There’s something magical about playing music in the open air, surrounded by families, friends, and the wider community, all coming together to celebrate.
Our performance was met with smiles, applause, and even a few sing‑alongs. The clear audience favourite was our rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody — it’s hard to resist the drama and fun of Queen’s masterpiece, and we loved seeing the crowd respond with such enthusiasm. But we didn’t stop there. We showcased a diverse range of styles, from our traditional brass band marches that carry the proud heritage of brass music, to the playful comedy of Morecambe and Wise, and of course, the timeless tunes of The Beatles. It was a set designed to have something for everyone, and judging by the reactions, it hit the mark.
Behind the scenes, none of this would have been possible without our manager, Chris. His organisation, efficiency, and empathy ensured everything ran smoothly. From delivering stands and instruments to making sure they were safely packed up and taken home again, Chris was the quiet hero of the day. It’s no small feat to manage a band, and we are lucky to have someone who does it with such dedication and care.
We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Sip and Savour tent, who supported the band and kept spirits high. Their hospitality added an extra layer of warmth to the day. And of course, a big shoutout to Monika, who captured the event with wonderful photos. It’s always special to have those moments preserved, and we’re grateful to see ourselves through her lens.
One of the highlights of the day was reconnecting with so many members of the wider brass band community. Friends, whānau, and fellow musicians stopped by to say hello, and it reminded us of the strength and camaraderie that exists within this musical world. The support and encouragement we felt from everyone was truly uplifting.
The Sumner Silver Band continues to go from strength to strength, thanks to the hard work of our committee and the dedication of our players. Each performance feels like another step forward, another chance to share the joy of music with our community. As we look ahead, we’re already thinking about the festive season — now, where did we put that carol book? 🎄🎺
