Sumner Silver Band Opens Princesses in the Park in Magical Style
The Sumner Silver Band brought a burst of colour and music to Princesses in the Park today at Ferrymead Heritage Park, opening the event with a vibrant programme of Disney favourites. With a 35‑strong ensemble filling the stage, the band set a joyful tone for the day, performing to a crowd of more than 1,200 people who packed into the park for the festivities.
The setting couldn’t have been more fitting. A beautifully crafted castle backdrop framed the stage, giving the performance a fairytale atmosphere that delighted families and young princesses arriving in costume. From the first notes, the band’s sound carried across the park, drawing people toward the main lawn and creating a sense of excitement that lasted throughout the morning.
Beyond the music, Ferrymead was alive with activity. Community stalls, food vendors, craft tables, and character meet‑and‑greets created a bustling village feel. Everywhere you looked, families were exploring, chatting, and enjoying the winter sunshine. It was one of those days where the community spirit was impossible to miss — the park truly felt like it was thriving.
For the Sumner Silver Band, it was a proud moment to contribute to such a well‑loved local annual event. Their Disney set brought smiles, nostalgia, and plenty of toe‑tapping from the crowd, marking a memorable start to a magical day at Ferrymead.
As the day drew to a close, several members of the Sumner Silver Band headed off to complete their weekend at Brass Blast, joining Ryan Peni, Tyme Marsters, and Alex Morton for the final sessions. Sumner players were treated to an extra end‑of‑day workshop with Alex, diving into those last “how can I help you” questions — the kind of practical, thoughtful guidance that makes a real difference.
Alex’s time, expertise, and generosity rounded off what had already been a spectacular day. From a magical morning at Ferrymead to an inspiring afternoon of learning, it was a proud and memorable Sunday for the Sumner Silver Band.
